Disability Advocacy

Cultural Detritus has been active with disability representation in front of and behind the camera since winning Best Film in the 2018 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. Under the leadership of Carl Hansen, they continue to champion people with disabilities in the Entertainment Industry and beyond.

Here are some statistics:

• 25% of the population has a disability (either visible or invisible)

• Roughly 3% are represented in Film & TV

• 95% of those roles are played by able-bodied actors portraying a disability they don’t have

• The percentages are MUCH lower for representation behind the camera
